About Us

My husband, two children and I emigrated to NZ in 2002 from Scotland. We live on 14 acres about 35km outside of Tauranga, near the town of Katikati. Since moving our family has grown considerably and we now share our lives with many Leonbergers, an Irish Setter called Ted and two very mad cats.
A good number of years ago I discovered a breed called the Leonberger. Circumstances did not allow for any more than admiration but I hoped that one day we would be the proud owners of this magnificent breed. On moving to NZ we were able to realise that dream.
Our dogs are very much part of our family and any breeding at Schiehallion is carefully considered with an emphasis on improving the already high standard currently in NZ. All our dogs are hip and elbow scored and eye tested before any decision is made about breeding. We always welcome enquiries about the breed so please feel free to contact us and we encourage people to visit and meet our dogs.
Our Kennel name, Schiehallion, is the name of a mountain in a very beautiful area of Scotland and means Fairy Hill of the Caledonian.
